At Beyond the Streets our interactive training is designed to help professionals deepen their understanding of the experiences of women selling and/or exchanging sex and build their confidence and knowledge in providing trauma-informed support. Drawing on our specialist knowledge and insights, our team also consults on various projects each year, including research initiatives, domestic homicide reviews, scoping studies and needs assessments.

Our Training

Our training equips professionals with the knowledge to better understand the sex industry, particularly survival sex and sexual exploitation, and provides them with the tools and skills they need to provide trauma-informed support to women. Our interactive training is rooted in women’s lived experience, academic research and over 25 years of practitioner experience. We offer both open access online sessions and bespoke training.

Women need to be respected and empowered to identify their own needs and devise their own strategies. We believe that change becomes sustainable when a person is empowered.

We offer a safe space to be heard, and help women make a a practical plan of bite-sized and achievable steps.

Reliable information and support is key for someone who is involved in selling sex. We journey with women to understand their situation and the choices available to them.

We are there for women as they take practical and manageable steps that lead to a genuine route out of exploitation.

Our services have been shaped by women with lived experience and we continue to consult with our service users.

Why train with Beyond the Streets?

  • Our training is delivered by staff from across our frontline and impact teams, bringing years of specialist experience in this sector.
  • Our training sessions can take place online or in-person, depending on your needs and budget.

“The impact of training delivered by Beyond the Streets to our service has been multi-faceted.  Staff now have a greater understanding of the sex industry and overall, confidence and competence in this area has greatly improved.  What has been notable, is that this has opened up a whole discussion and area of focus that the sex industry and survival sex can, and do exist everywhere, and we need to better understand to be able to respond effectively; and from the knowledge and skills given to us by Beyond the Streets, we're able to build on initial discussions and support those who access our service much more holistically.”

Understanding Survival Sex

Available as open access training and bespoke training

In this interactive 3–hour training session, we explore the concept of survival sex. We look at what it is, why women might be involved in survival sex, and how understanding this term can enhance the support you provide to women.

You will gain an understanding of what barriers women might be facing when accessing support services and will unpack what good practice in supporting those engaged in survival sex looks like. The session includes shared scenarios to practise and embed learning.

By the end of the session, you will have gained confidence and skills to help you approach the subject of the sex industry with women and identify when it is the right time to do so.
