Here at Beyond the Streets, we have been fighting sexual exploitation for over 20 years. Working directly with women to find freedom from abuse, violence and coercion.
Many women involved in the UK sex industry experience multiple disadvantages including substance dependency, mental health challenges and unstable housing. Research suggests that many women become involved in prostitution from a young age and often follows childhood trauma. Once involved in prostitution, intimidation, abuse of power and control play a key part in keeping her selling sex.
Last year we ran our first ever sponsored Street Walk, bringing people together on the streets of London to take a stand against sexual exploitation. Together we celebrated the strength of women overcoming adversity and raised vital funds to support our work directly with women to find sustainable routes out of prostitution.
This year we want to make the Street Walk even bigger and get even more people involved! We will be running two events, taking to the streets of Winchester on the 13th November and London on the 14th November.
We want you to join together with friends to take action against an issue that affects every community across the UK. Walking with us is an opportunity to learn more about how poverty and deprivation are leading to increasing numbers of women turning to selling sex to survive.
This is a sponsored walk, and a great opportunity to raise money to help us fight sexual exploitation. Last year our amazing walkers raised just over £4,200 and we want to double that amount this year! All the money you raise will help us keep supporting women through our direct services. Our team build trust with each woman they work with, supporting her to make changes and take action. We see women make transformational changes in their lives, we need your help to ensure we can continue to support the women who turn to us for help.
