Trauma Informed Approaches to Working with Women in the Sex Industry

About this event

This two-part interactive online course unpacks the complexity of the UK sex industry and the impact of trauma within this context, and explores the benefits of trauma informed approaches to working with women in the sex industry, equipping the learner to begin to implement such an approach within their own work.

The session aims to:

Session 1:

1) Increase understanding of the complexity of the sex industry in the UK

2) Understand who is most affected by this issue and the benefits of a gendered approach (Violence Against Women and Girls/VAWG)

3) Explore differing perspectives and language

4) Understand the impact of trauma on the brain and behaviour of women accessing services

5) Enable practice through exploring case studies

Session 2:

1) Explore self-care

2) Gain awareness of the barrier’s women face in accessing support and/or exiting

3) Enable participants to feel more confident asking women about safety and their experiences of the sex industry

4) Understand the benefits of a trauma informed approach in this context and come away with next steps

5) Reflect on what this means for me, and my organisation

This training is suitable for any professionals in the charity sector/anyone who wants to learn more or hear more about a woman-centred trauma-informed approach to working with women.

Spaces are limited for this interactive training, so booking is essential.

This course is delivered by a specialist practitioner with substantial experience working directly with women. The content is shaped by 20 years of practice and our continual commitment to learning from women with lived experience.

All our training aims to make the sector stronger and enable learning about a trauma-informed and women-centred approach. We ask that all who attend respect this intention, as this event is not provided as an opportunity to debate the various political views of the sex industry.
