Taking Steps Together: Sponsored Streetwalk
We’ll be walking 12k through London after dark on Sat 20th November and asking people to sponsor our efforts, as we walk the streets in the footsteps of women experiencing violence and coercion. We’ll talk about their stories, celebrate their courage and resilience, and by walking will raise awareness of the lives of women past and present. Together we’ll take steps towards a future where sexual exploitation is history.
Bobbi is a woman who has been supported by Beyond the Streets in 2021, and she shared with us her experience:
‘I wasn’t ok. I felt sick, I felt dirty, I felt worthless and no matter how hard I tried to carry on I knew I wasn’t living how I really wanted. But I felt trapped. Who would employ me? Who would want me? Who would understand the mess I was in. Who would believe me? Who even cared?
Thankfully a lot of people did. The story of how I got out was one of “escape” and that would be a story for another time. For now, I feel incredibly honoured to have been supported by Beyond the Streets, to find my voice.’
Join our Streetwalk to raise funds to support more women like Bobbi, who desperately need to find a new future for themselves. Join us because sexual exploitation happens in every community. Join us because we must take steps together to end violence against women and girls and say NO to sexual exploitation.
We’ll walk 12k from St. Matthews Church and will walk a circular route across London and down the South Bank, starting at 6.30pm. We anticipate this will take between two and a half to three hours, walking in teams of up to 8. You can make up a team with friends or we can match you up with other walkers on the night.
There is a £20 cost to register, which covers our running costs for the walk as well as a goody bag you receive on the night.
We’d like participants to raise £250 each to support our work with women. The minimum sponsorship we ask for is £100 and details of how you can collect sponsorship will be sent out on registration.
