Vacancy: Beyond Support Team Leader

An opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader to join our small, well-established charity, that supports and empowers women who experience multiple disadvantages and want to make positive changes to their lives.

We are seeking a Team Leader to join our Beyond Support team based in Southampton.  The role will involve the day-to-day management of a small team of telephone support workers who provide a telephone appointment service to women in the sex industry across the UK; supporting them to make goals and support the changes that they wish to make.  We wish to develop and expand this national service, reaching more women and professionals. Our intentions to expand the service to women and professionals will require someone who use their relevant skills and expertise to take this project into the next phase of development.

Who you are:

You will have an excellent awareness of the complexities of sexual exploitation.  You will have significant experience of working with vulnerable women/adults.  This might be within the context of domestic/sexual abuse, substance misuse, mental health, counselling, or housing. Or it may be of direct experience of women in the sex industry.  You will have a proven track record of people management and an involvement with developing a service.

You will have the energy and creativity to expand the existing database of professionals and services to increase the network of support services available to women.  You will have the ability to develop and implement a strategy for increasing the number of women we reach as our audience.  You will be able to think and work independently, yet also be a supportive colleague to the wider organisation.  You will ideally have experience of gender and trauma informed approaches.

You will thrive on supporting women to become empowered and to make positive change.  You will possess self-motivation, and professional resilience.  You hold a level of confidence in advocating on behalf of women and to other professionals and services, whilst ever mindful of ways to support and encourage the empowerment of women in the process.

Who we are:

We are an established charity with over twenty years’ experience of journeying alongside women who currently, or in the past have sold sex and who want support to exit prostitution or make changes in their lives. We see all women with the possibility of life beyond exploitation. Within this specialised area of work, we work with women to initially ensure their safety from violence or coercion, then to address the underlying issues that lead them to sell sex.  We adopt a women-centred model and a trauma-informed way of working with our women.

We take the well-being of our staff seriously, and actively encourage our team to take time to reflect and to continuously develop their skills and knowledge.  We offer regular clinical supervision, a development and training budget, as well as regular team training and reflection events.

Location: Southampton (predominantly office working – some flexibility to work from home on occasion and in line with COVID regulations)

Hours of work: 28-35 per week (flexibility on number of hours will be considered for the right candidate)

Leave: 25 days plus bank holidays (FTE)

Salary: £28,500 – £29,500 (FTE)

Contract: Permanent (subject to successful completion of 6-month probationary period)
